i used to think you were an amazing artist, then i realised you have one of the most limited ranges in expression/character build/pose e.t.c. i've ever seen. still, it sells.

All of your male characters look the same, barring when you draw Nathan. And even then any brute-ish character you draw looks like Nathan. It's become frustrating, because you have an immense talent and yet you keep churning out essentially the same drawing over and over, or pandering to the grunts of OOO PENIS OMG from most y! commenters. You're better than this. When I first started watching your LJ, I was stunned by your talent. Especially in your female drawings, the woman with dreads comes to mind as well as the mermaid character. They looked *amazing*. And then suddenly every drawing is Skwisgaar, even when the character supposedly isn't Skwisgaar.

A while ago someone posted on fandom secrets that they hope you do not break into their fandoms. I regret to admit that I now feel the same.

You're right. I'm quite aware of that now, and I'm trying to do my best to change that :3

You are emotionally manipulative online and what you did to her was heartless.

I think that your art style is extremely monotonous and it's getting rather boring. I don't doubt that you have talent, though.

I know. And I'm sorry.

Like I said, I fucked up royally because I thought I was doing the right thing by telling her what she wanted to hear in order to make her feel better. But I went about it wrong and made promises I couldn't keep.

I know it's probably way too late now to say this, but I've been sorry ever since that day.

At least you don't think Nate looks like Skwiss ;)

But yeah. I have to agree that my style is repetitive. I'm practicing more and I'm trying new things in hopes of changing it up.

And I do apologize for messing up the fandom. It was never my intent, but I just got carried away with it. And sadly that put a lot of people off, and I feel guilty about that.

My comments in this entry are getting a bit repetitive too *lol*

Like I've said before, I'm trying to improve and inject some variety in my work without losing my style. And hopefully come to a happy medium between myself and the people who watch, so we can both be happy about it.

It's been really interesting to see how fandom people at first all loved you beyond all belief, but later on it turned out that a bunch of them apparently really hate you. While I'll admit that I've been irked by some of your character portrayals and the frequent repetitiveness, I think most of those people were being petty douchebags. Ohhhh no someone drew a character in a way I didn't like, now I must have a personal vendetta against them! I don't know, you've always seemed nice enough to me. I'm probably not in a great position to judge, though, since I don't know you that well and we haven't really interacted much. I can tell that recently you've been making a conscious effort to try and improve your style and do different things with it, and I commend you for that.

I find it kind of interesting that yours is the only journal where I've seen this meme posted where the majority of the comments risked actually being critical/honest. And I wonder if that's because you seem to have a decent sense of self-esteem/ability to take criticism, or maybe you're just more known and so more people are commenting. I've resisted being entirely honest in the other journals, for fear of causing distress to certain paper-thin egos ( that's not a dig at anyone - all fangirls tend to have paper-thin egos, as a general rule).

My honest comment to you, regarding your work, is this: It took a while for your art style to grow on me, but it has quite a lot. I don't agree with your visual representation/interpretation of the Dethklok characters in some ways, but your style reminded me vaguely of Aeon Flux when I first saw it (God knows why, and that isn't an insult), so I kept looking and I do like that it's a style that is distinct without being derivative of, say, Japanese manga. That is, I enjoy looking at it, even when I'm not agreeing with it. Which is unusual for me. Although I admit that I also like your women more than your men, most of the time, and for some reason sometimes when you draw the Metalocalypse characters as women, I recognize more of their personality-from-the-show in them than when you draw them regularly. I have no idea why that is.

While I can see where people are coming from when they say that your stuff is often repetitive, I applaud your ability to be consistent. Most amateur artists/fanartists aren't, myself included. Because we know what your Skwisgaar looks like, we instantly recognize him in a picture - no matter what position or part of him the picture is of. That kind of consistency takes discipline - and requires drawing a character over and over again. Which is pretty repetitive, and why so few artists accomplish it.

Personally and non-fanart related, I have enjoyed exchanges with you and I think you're a clever and interesting girl. There's a lot I think I'd like to know about you.

Yeah, that kinda came as a shock to me. It hurt at first. But I was cool with it because people are entitled to their opinions just as much as I'm entitled to have a laugh at my own expense (i.e. the I Ruin Fandoms pic @ DA) But apparently, having a giggle at yourself translates as "butthurt" to some.

Looking back on things, I agree with you on the way I portray the guys, but I feel what I've done is no worse than what anyone else has done in the fandom.

But I apologize for it anyway, and I am making an effort to change what I do. I just wish it were under better circumstances via constructive criticism, or telling me out in the open, instead of the events that occured.

I have been stunned by your talent and your skill at drawing. I can't understand why people think you are repetitive. Your style is your style. Draw what your muses and your heart says, not what a small group of asshats say you should draw.

I've been blown away by all of your art, your Dethklok stuff and your original characters. I've been a myth and legends fan for a long time and those beings are just amazing to me.

I also find you are an amazing person. Yeah, you have made mistakes with some people, but you aren't the only one at fault. Each side has to take responsibility for her or his own actions.

I am proud to say I know you. I hope you consider me a friend as much as I consider you a friend. And I hope one day to meet you in person.

They're probably being more critical/honest because I can take a hit *lol* I've been taking them IRL for quite a while, so the internet is no worry :3

You're right to say that you can see a bit of Aeon Flux in my art (no offense taken at that, btw) because Peter Cheung is one of my many influences.

And you're right about art being consistent. Skwisgaar (or anyone else I draw) would look odd if I drew him differently each and every time. Modernist!Skwisgaar in one pic, Pre-Raphaelite!Skwisgaar in the next wouldn't really add up after a while. Besides, he and the rest of the characters look the same in every episode (with the exception of the occasional wardrobe change) So why not have that carry over into fanart?

And like I've said before, my art gets to be repetitive because there are certain poses/situations I like to draw a character in because that's what I enjoy. But I forgot to keep in mind that not everyone likes what I like, so I ended up flooding a fandom with things I found appealing without really thinking about other people. I'm not gonna lie when I say I feel bad about that.

And I'm glad you like the women I draw, even though I don't dwell on the female form as much as I should *makes a note to draw more girls*

And hey. Drop me a note if you wanna know me ^^

I admit, when I first entered the fandom, I didn't like your art much. I never thought it was awful, it just wasn't my cup of tea. But I would see it again here and there, and it started to grow on me. Now you're one of my favorite artists in the fandom (and period). True, in some of your earlier work the characters did bear some strong resemblances to each other, and I've noticed in your more recent work those resemblances are more and more diminshed. I must say, while I liked your earlier work, I LOVE your stuff over the last few months. Like the person said before me, you have a definite stlye and you worked at it; and yeah, when you're honing a style, you're going to get some stuff that looks pretty similar. Repetition is essential to the process. But you're not afraid to branch out, try new things, and notice things that need improvement. I really respect you for that.

That being said, there is NOTHING so horrendous about your art that justifies the way those people treated you. They were petty. They were jealous. And they just could not stand it that you took it so well and had a sense of humor about it. Dear, you have done NOTHING to "ruin the fandom," and you should not have to apologize for it. Fandom isn't ruined by pictures of guys with big cocks, it's ruined by wankers. I applaud you for how well you've handled the whole situation.

And in non-fandom related issues, I don't know you very well, but from what I do, you seem like a very talented, kind, and interesting person. I hope someday I can get to know you better.

Also, your Chicklok stuff owns my soul. That is all.

Heia Hallo. I see the big brave flamers have shown up. Fascinating how they move in packs and hide behind f-locked journals. Personally if I have something to say, I say it. But then I'm all grown up and can handle myself. Must be different for children, who are limited to stomping their feet and waving their dollies.

Your art is gorgeous. I love the fluidity of the lines, and the way you capture emotion. I saw that picture you did of Skwisgaar playing guitar with his headphones on, and I adored it. It seemed so peaceful. I keep hoping you'll illustrate something of mine, but I'm too shy to ask, because I know how hard it is to create art. But if you ever get the urge, I'll be honoured. ::Hugs.::

I think we should patent our peen goggles. WE COULD MADE LOTS OF MONEY! *Giggles*

In-jokes are cool. She always sends me these pics she gets off line and I seriously have to ask Katz sometimes, "Do you get paid for me to blither and jerk away flailing from the screen?" I think she said she did that for free.

Mind you, these are -photos-, not drawings.

Peter Cheung is a good influence to have! Aeon was the hottest thing on liquid television. I don't think I'd apologize for being repetitive, but then I also flood my fandoms with what I like, because that's what I want to see more of. I'd only keep an audience in mind if I'm getting paid for something. I'm that callous, and that shameless about such things. Which could be why I tend not to have many readers or get very involved in fandoms as a general rule.

Sure thing. I'm twilightspeaks or twilight_speaks on pretty much everything under the sun. ^.~
